How to detect whether the fuse resistor is working properly?

Publish Time: 2025-01-02
As an electronic component that combines the functions of a resistor and a fuse, the fuse resistor plays an important role in overcurrent protection in the circuit. In order to ensure the safe and stable operation of the circuit, it is particularly important to regularly detect the working status of the fuse resistor.

The first step to detect whether the fuse resistor is working properly is to perform an appearance inspection. In the power-off state, carefully observe the appearance of the fuse resistor to check whether there are signs of burning, deformation or breakage. These appearance abnormalities are often the direct manifestation of fuse resistor damage.

Secondly, using a multimeter for measurement is a more accurate method. Set the multimeter to the resistance range, and then touch the test leads to the two ends of the fuse resistor respectively. If the measured resistance value is close to its nominal value or within the normal range, it means that the fuse resistor is in normal working condition. On the contrary, if the resistance value is infinite, it means that the fuse resistor has been blown and can no longer play a protective role.

In addition, the working status of the fuse resistor can also be indirectly judged by circuit testing. When the circuit is working normally, measure the voltage across the fuse resistor. If the voltage is zero or close to zero, it means that the current is passing through the fuse resistor normally and it is in good condition. If the voltage is close to the power supply voltage, it may mean that the fuse resistor is broken and needs to be replaced.

It should be noted that when performing the above test, make sure that the circuit is powered off to avoid the risk of electric shock. At the same time, different types and specifications of fuse resistors may have different detection methods, so in actual operation, you should refer to its manual or consult a professional.
